Daphne Reiley

Sometimes I marvel at the flexibility of the distance between my mind and my heart. There are times when it is miniscule as I remember or am reminded of something about my mother or father; and there are times when it is miles long as I attempt to remember my forgotten grocery list and know there's something on it my daughter urgently desired me to buy for her. My heart aches both times -- at the immediate memory of parents lost as well as at the anticipated disappointment to be seen on my daughter's face when I return empty-handed.

I should have put a tag in my blog for "grief and cognitive dysfunction."

Six months: hardly any time at all.
