“Hello.”
“Hello, Parson. Scott Jaggard. How are you?”
“I’m good, Scott. And you?”
“I guess I’m okay, Parson. We just keep on keeping going, as they say.”
“And I guess Patricia and the kids are doing well.”
“They are. Both boys are in college. Patricia has been working for a consulting firm and doing really well.”
“That’s good to hear, Scott.”
“Look, Parson, I’m calling to ask you if you’ve heard about them taking away a guaranteed appointment for ordained elders.”
“I’ve heard about it, Scott. A commission has been established to look into the possibility of removing the guarantee of an appointment.”
“What do you think about it?”
“I haven’t really thought about it, Scott. I’m waiting to see what the commission comes up with.”
“You realize that if they do away with the guaranteed appointment some people who have churches now won’t have them any longer.”
“I realize that, Scott.”
“And that’s okay with you?”
“I can’t imagine a bit of culling would hurt, Scott.”
“This is going to make a lot of pastors anxious, Parson.”
“Scott, it might help a lot of us if we were a little
anxious about our jobs.”
