Many, many thanks to everyone who made comments on or sent emails about the last post. Your prayers as so appreciated.
Here’s the the full story:
A little less than ten years ago, Christi, my daughter, went into a seizure after retiring to bed for the evening. Paramedics transported her to the nearest facility, where she was treated but sent home. After being sent home, she went into a coma. At the time she was three months pregnant and we found ourselves in that awful position of “who do you want us to save, the mother or the baby.”
Prayers went up from people everywhere. Christi woke from her coma following the treatments that were supposed to kill the baby. And the baby was fine. I remember the words, “That virus was in every tissue of her body except her uterus and that’s impossible.” The baby was named Faith.
Everything went well. Christi has some “stroke-like” manifestations following this incident, but she continued with her life in ways that amazed and continue to amaze us all.
Christi’s brain has scarring (my word not the medical term) as a result of the seizure. And in the area of this scaring there is still activity that always has the potential of a seizure. On Monday of this week she had a dental appointment at which novocaine was used. It now appears the novocaine lowered her threshold for resisting the onset of a seizure.
On Tuesday she was going to a Subway for lunch. She remembers turning into the parking lot but nothing after that until waking up in the emergency room. Her car ran up onto the sidewalk of the shopping center. Some Georgia Power linesmen saw what happened and called 911. Some very alert and dedicated EMTs found the dental appointment card in the car, called the dentist and got the cell phone number of my son-in-law. He was able to get to them along with Christ’s mother before they transported her to this hospital and take care of the baby who at this point was terrified.
At the hospital she appeared to be doing well, but in the early evening while still in the ER she experienced another seizure. As I posted yesterday this was really stressful for all of us as her twelve and nine-year-old were in the treatment room when it happened. About an hour later she experienced a third seizure.
Today further testing was done. The results indicate the current seizure came from the effected part of her brain resulting from the previous episode. A new drug is now available that will allow her to have a higher resistance to any potential onset of a seizure.
Christi and I and the whole family are so grateful for everyone’s prayers. You will never know how much it means to us.
Sorry I missed yesterday's post ... praying for all of you
