“Hey, Parson, hailed Sidney Ridgefield, a respected member of the community and one many considered a power behind the local political machine, “I read your book.” [insert shameless self-promoting link here]
“Well, that’s really nice to hear, Sid,” the parson responded. “If my math is right, that makes twenty-three who have.”
“That’s funny,” said Sidney, “but seriously, I really liked it.”
“I do appreciate that, Sid.”
“Fact is, Evelyn liked it so much she said we ought to visit your church sometimes.”
“That would make writing the book worth it, Sid,” the parson responded.
“Yeah, well, we don’t go to church much, and, besides, as I told Evelyn, we’re Baptists.”
The parson smiled, “Ya’ll come on anyway, Sid. I won’t tell anyone.”
