Dear Dr. Dobson:
I'm a little late in relating the following, but I've had a really busy month these last two weeks. Nevertheless, I wanted to let you know I learned about some prayerful activities of your staff recently.
According
to the New Yorker magazine
issue of September 15, 2008 folks at Focus on the Family were
certainly focused in prayer back in August. The “Comment” section
of that issue reports that “Stuart Shepard, the digital-media
director of the lobbying arm of Focus on the Family, ... posed a
question to his Internet viewers. 'Would it be wrong,' he asked, 'to
pray for rain?'” He was speaking in reference to Senator Obama's
acceptance speech in a Denver football stadium. Obviously, as the
article points out, your partner thought it not wrong. He prayed for
rain. He prayed for a lot of rain. He prayed for rain to come in
“Biblical proportions” He prayed for the rain to begin exactly
two minutes before the Senator's speech began. The article quotes Mr.
Shepard as saying, “I know there will probably be people who will
pray for seventy-two degrees and clear skies, but this isn't a
contest.”
I'm not sure you have heard, but to be sure I would point out to you the skies were clear that night. The speech went on without meteorological interference. Everyone there seemed to have had a delightful time.
By
the way, Dr. Dobson, did you take note there was a hurricane that
disrupted the opening of the Republican National Convention?
I'm just a country parson, Dr. Dobson. I've never claimed to have advantage of a dedicated line to the Almighty. But one has to wonder what happened here. I certainly can't explain it. But, perhaps you can dedicate a program to this phenomenon.
I'm the Questing Parson and I approve the chuckling you hear in the background.
